What is Dot-BIT

Dot-BIT is a project based on the namecoin software that free internet users from imperial control of DNS by ICANN.

It is a distributed, fully decentralized and anonymous way of registering domains. Project is already usable but still in an early phase.

Security is deeply integrated in the software to allow only the owner of a domain to modify name attributes in the distributed database.

The first TLD available is .bit.

What is namecoin

Namecoin, a software based on the bitcoin code source, allows you to :

  • register, configure and transfer domains

Security is managed through integrated public/private keys stored on your computer (backup your wallet.dat file regularly !).

All users of the namecoin software share a common list of all domain names in the distributed database.
